Humus Consulting partnered with the North Commewijne Tourism Cluster (NCTC) and the Compete Caribbean Partnership Facility (CCPF) to advance responsible tourism in North Commewijne. The initiative focused on empowering local guides and entrepreneurs through targeted capacity-building efforts.
Guide Training Program
The consulting firm provided instruction covering "birdwatching, nature, history, heritage, and culture of North Commewijne." This training equipped local guides to deliver authentic experiences while strengthening the region's reputation as a culturally and naturally rich destination.
Business Development Support
A second focus area involved strengthening Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs). Humus Consulting delivered intensive training sessions — both in-person and virtual — to help local business owners develop sound commercial practices and stimulate sustainable tourism enterprises.
Impact and Vision
The partnership illustrates how collaborative efforts between communities, businesses, and external organizations can strengthen local capacity. Sustainable tourism serves dual purposes: generating economic revenue while preserving cultural and natural heritage for future generations.
The initiative demonstrates the potential for tourism to become "a tool for preserving the beautiful diversity" the region offers.
